The gray and white apprentice flicked his ears as he made his way out of the camp. He had been given the task of changing the moss in the elders den as well as bringing fresh balls of wet moss to the queens in the nursery. The tom made his way to a tree that was coated in the moss and he unsheathed his claws, rearing up on his hind legs. One of his fore-paws balanced on the tree above the moss, holding him up, while he moved the other paw in quick, smooth strikes. In a matter of minutes, he had a clean pile of fresh moss at his paws. Leaping down from the rearing position, he nudged through his moss pile, making sure to pull out all the thorns or rough patches that may cut the elders or irritate their bones.
Cuckoopaw split his pile in two, pushing one half to the side, away from the pool, and then rolling the other into a few, large balls. Carefully, one by one, the apprentice doused the moss balls into the pool, allowing them to drip until they were full and heavy with water. With a small grunt, the apprentice picked up the wet balls, leaving the dry moss for the second trip so he didn't soak them. Now it was just a matter of if he could get these three, giant balls to the camp without falling over his own four paws.

RAGGEDSTAR x - kit - apprentice - warrior - deputy - leader - x
It hadn't been long since he last left the camp alone, but the tall trees and sparkle water of Shadowclan territory seemed to call him out nearly everyday. The weather was calm, the breeze cool and gentle as it ruffled his black fur with the calming heat warming his pelt as the large tom padded through the territory toward the small pool not far from camp. Stopping in his tracks - ears perked at the sound of paw prints against the ground, keeping to the shadows as he moved silently forward to get a better view.
There he was an apprentice running about doing his morning duties, happiness burst through his chest at the sight that made him realise that even with a new leader the clan continued to work as normal. Padding forward out of the shadows to make his presence known with his long tail swaying back and forth, "Hello Cuckoopaw." his voice rumbled deep within his chest as he spoke - kindness in his tone. Raggedstar had always taken an interest in the younger cats, every one of them had amazing potential to be great warriors. "Gathering water for the elders, I assume?"

The tom cat completely halted when a voice filled his ears. He set down his mouthful of moss and turned to face a black cat as he quickly recognized his leader. Cuckoopaw ducked his head in respect, a smile pooling on his lips. As Raggedstar spoke, the gray and white apprentice felt his fur beam with pride. He wasn't a cat of affection, to be quite honest. Not even really a cat of emotion. Cuckoopaw was a very reserved cat, especially for an apprentice. He was not the kind to go up and start a conversation, and he honestly didn't bother with trying to continue them either. But, like every apprentice, Cuckoopaw dreamed of one day leading his clan. Therefore, he was always willing to sit down and chat with his leader.
Gathering water for the elders, I assume? The larger, black tom murmured, his tone soft and kind, not usually what the gray and white apprentice was used to. His ears twitched as a small purr rumbled in his throat. "Queens, too." He added gently, a hint of daring lighting behind his golden eyes. When the words were out of his mouth, he slightly regretted the humorous tone. He was so used to being around other apprentices or young warriors and could speak how ever he liked. Swallowing his thoughts he ducked his head to the leader once more. "My apologies, I shouldn't take such a tone with you, Raggedstar." He meowed, his voice actually holding the shame he felt in his belly. He really needed to learn to watch how he spoke around his authority.
The gray and white apprentice lowered his haunches to a sitting position, wrapping his tail around his paws. His ears were hot with the embarrassment from moments before, and he kept his eyes locked on his paws, not exactly daring to meet Raggedstar's eyes at the moment.

RAGGEDSTAR x - kit - apprentice - warrior - deputy - leader - x Raggedstar sat with his tail coiled around his paws, his body held proudly with his gaze focused on the smaller tom. 'Queens too.' his eyes glinted with amusement at Cuckoopaws words, suprised when the tom seemed to be ashamed of his choice in words, unsure how to respond to his apology for such a tame use of voice. "No need for apologies, I've heard far worse used against me." he purred with amusement, "You should've heard the Thunderclan cats wails as we took the Twoleg Place from them, now they, should be apologising for their tones." he mewed with a chuckle, his awkward attempt at a joke.
"Speak freely around me though, you needn't apologise for your words." his voice turning slightly serious as he spoke, refusing to have any cat nervous about their words around him. Raggedstar stood up, his eyes glancing at the moss sparkling with a new curiousity of the apprentices knowledge of gathering moss. "You do know how to carry the most amount of moss I assume? Although, I wouldn't suggest doing it with this moss unless you want you're chest wet." he mewed glancing down to the soggy pieces of rolled up moss. "I doubt Lunastorm would appreciate you catching a cold from moss." his eyes glinted with amusement. "But after you bring the water to the elders and queens, I bet the elders wouldn't mind fresh moss."

The gray and white tom's ears twitched and he raised his golden gaze to the black tom when he spoke that he shouldn't be ashamed of how he was speaking. Though, Cuckoopaw disagreed. He believed that whenever anyone spoke to the leader, they should do so in a formal and respectful manner. However, the young tom didn't say this out loud. Instead, he dipped his head in acknowledgement, listening as Raggedstar went on. The apprentice let out a snort of amusement when the leader spoke of the Thunderclan cats who should be apologizing for their tones. A smirk lit up the tom's face and he laughed lightly. "Nah, let them say what they like, when they decide it's time to apologize we will just have to whoop their tails again." Another snort and the apprentice flicked his tail twitch.
The two sat in silence for a few moments, before Raggedstar pointed out how Cuckoopaw's way of carrying moss was going to soak his chest and have him spending time in the medicine cats den. He twitched his ear, thinking about what the leader had said before turning his golden gaze on him. "What do you suggest I do to get it all back to the camp?" He meowed, his eyes moving from the wet, rolled moss, to the black tom. He hadn't really thought about getting a cold or worrying about the moss - he figured he carried it the same way he did the dry moss, rolled up and held firmly against his chest by his chin. Though, now that he really thought about it, he knew that Raggedstar had a point. Waiting for a response, the gray and white apprentice allowed his gaze to flicker from one pile to the other, trying to work out how he could do what the black tom suggested without breaking his brain or making himself sick.

RAGGEDSTAR x - kit - apprentice - warrior - deputy - leader - x The leader's ears twitched with appreciation at the young cats comments about beating Thunderclan again, 'Too right we will' he thought confidently. Pawing at the wet moss with a thoughtful expression knowing there was no way to carry all of the moss at once without getting wet. "Well, usually apprentices go out it groups to fetch wet moss," he mewed turning his intense green gaze on the tom, "There is no way to carry all of this without getting your fur wet which is why an extra set of jaws is always a good thing to have."
Nudging one of the three moss balls toward the apprentice, "Grab this, I'll get the other one and we can come back for this third one and gather dry moss while we're at it." he mewed firmly, remembering how gathering moss was his least favourite task as an apprentice and how multiple trips back and forth from camp used to irritate him. "You can grab the dry moss on the second trip and I'll get the wet moss." he mewed grabbing the large ball of wet moss surprised by the weight of it and the strain it put on his neck, wondering how the apprentice would fare with the moss.
Holding his head level to his back and he began to move slowly through the trees, flicking his tail as an indication that Cuckoopaw should follow. He began to move faster hoping the apprentice could keep up, the weight of the moss would be good training for his muscles making sure to glance behind himself regularly to make sure Cuckoopaw was close behind him his pace wavering every now and then, aware that they had to do this a second time.
