Smallbrook - 723 WordsTags: Lightningstrike [Minteh Freshness]Notes: Her original name was Minnowstream..... Finally, she would be able to spend the night back in the warrior’s den. With her latest illness she had been secluded to the medicine cat’s den and had not seen her own bed since what had seemed like her warrior ceremony almost a half moon prior. She couldn’t wait to get back and curl up in the nest. Now that she thought about it, she could move her nest back towards the warmer part of the den..surely the other warriors wouldn’t mind. Especially since she hadn’t slept in her nest for more than a day before she had gotten sick. If she slept toward the back, hopefully it could help her frail body recover easier. Maybe this would help her not get so sick…wishful thinking there.
Just as she was finally about to curl up in her nest, deciding to move it tomorrow, she heard shuffling pawsteps. Half of her night had been spent with waiting for permission to return. Smallbrook rarely slept much anyway. She was too eager to get out and help. She was eager to get back out and hunt, to do something other than just sit still and rest. Instead of trying to go to sleep, she became curious. Though she knew it was probably no more than a fellow warrior awaking and going on patrol or just giving her some peace, she shrugged it off.
She had just gotten over illness, and trying to do too much too soon could end her right back up in the medicine cat den. With a deep sigh, Smallbrook didn’t care. She was no longer tired and itching to do something, anything. Padding out of the den, the tiny she-cat looked to the nursery. She had been mistaken for one of the queen’s kit last moon…and she still couldn’t get over that. It was beyond embarrassing. She had thought about grabbing something to eat, but the thought was quickly avoided, she wasn’t hungry and didn’t want any food to go to waste. Smallbrook looked around, spotted a few warriors but her eyes landed upon the exit of camp.
Without another thought, she padded toward one of her favorite spots. This would allow her to just get out of camp, and to not think about being sick. Despite all of her hardship, Smallbrook was an excellent warrior. She may be small in size and would never grow anymore, but she was amazing at hunting, especially tracking. Maybe she would put that skill to use on her way back but for now she wanted to head to the lakeshore.
It took quite a while for her to reach her destination, because for once she was following what she had been told, to take it easy. She because she was well enough to sleep in the warriors den again, didn't mean she wasn't still in jeopardy of relapsing. She didn't want to be in there again. But once she reached her destination, her eyes sparkled as bright as the water. Finally! Her favorite place in all of the clan.
Why did the she-cat like this place so much? It was quite the simple explanation. The minnows reminded her of herself. They were small but mighty. And it just so happened that the water here was not nearly as deep as it was elsewhere. Even the training ground for apprentices could be troublesome for her, and this is the one place where her size was insignificant. She was able to swim here with no worries, and just be free.
It was rare to see Smallbrook taking a break, but not rare to see her here on breaks. She was always in constant motion, but for now, she was wanting to just relax and try to not be sick for a half moon or so. Maybe she could actually go by the nursery without being mistaken for a kit. With eyes sparkling, yet also showing confusion, Smallbrook sat down near the shore in careful contemplation. Should she jump in and just play, or should she just sit on the shore and enjoy herself, watch the minnows swim around? One sounded fun, while the other sounded safe, and as she thought about it all she could do was sigh.

A white and yellow tabby made smooth strokes through the lake. He did this as much as he could, strengthening his legs. Hardly anyone would think he does this since he boasts of being perfect at everything without any practice. Over the sounds of his movements, the warrior heard someone on shore. He glanced over and studied the cat. The size was that of a kit, but no kit would have made it to the lake, so it must be Smallbrook. The tom decided to come over to her. Lightningstrike changed his course and headed back to shore. As he came closer, he grinned at her. "Hey! Smallbrook! Good to see you out and about. Does Russetfur know you are this far away from camp or are you no longer sick? He didn't say it in a cruel way, but the way he did say it was in a way that it seemed like him being sick could and would never happen. The yellow tabby touched the bottom and slowly padded up to the small warrior. The water had darkened his coat to a ginger with dark, dark stripes. He shook out his pelt, careful to not get her with any of the droplets. Lightningstrike's fur stuck out in multiple directions and he turned his neck to lick it down flat. When he was done, the tom looked back at her and smiled. Words || 235 Tagged || dylan as Smallbrook Ooc || Sorry it's not that long.

Smallbrook - 432 WordsTags: Lightningstrike [Minteh Freshness]Notes: Might be a little all over the place, my brain is everywhere today Smallbrook’s imagination began to go in effect as she watched the rippling water. She loved to just stick her paw in and watch the ripples, maybe her claw would ‘accidentily’ hook on a minnow and she could scare some cats with it. No, that would be wrong…but funny. No, she had to stay serious, she had joked enough when she was in the medicine cat’s den. She was not an apprentice anymore, she was given warrior status for a reason and she needed to act like it. It probably wouldn’t take long for another cat to irritate her anyways and she would prove why she was made a warrior in the first place. The next cat to mention her size, would definitely get a lashing. Now that sounded more fun. It was like she lived to give a nice tongue lashing to someone. Now if it became physical, that would be another story. Would she attempt to fight, sure, would she win? That was a very minuscule chance.
The she-cat was almost startled at the sound of another cat’s voice. She had thought she had been alone. Wow…some tracker she was. Maybe that medicine she had been taking still was affecting her sense of smell. As she looked up she sighed. It was only Lightningstrike. She watched as he swam about and was still tempted herself. “Oh, you have no idea how good it feels to be out of that cramped den. I swear I have my own bed in that den.” She murmured, and watched as he approached more. Wow, she actually was going to have a conversation with someone. Usually she wouldn’t slow down enough to do this. “I doubt anyone knows where I am, but if they would use their nose they could track my scent. I don’t need anyone’s permission to come out here anyway. But yes, Russetfur told me I could go back to the warriors den now.” Now would Smallbrook admit that she was still on restricted duty for another few sunrises? Probably not. Would she tell anyone? Probably not, unless it was forced out of her.
“Consider yourself lucky that you don’t get sick often.” Smallbrook added, now that he was out of the water she was almost straining to look up. And he didn’t shake off in front of her? Wow, now that was kind. But she couldn’t help but let out a chuckle at seeing his fur stuck out. “Have you been out here long? Is the water warm?” she questioned. Seeing him swim was really making her fur itch to jump in.

“Oh, you have no idea how good it feels to be out of that cramped den. I swear I have my own bed in that den.” Lightningstrike just barely heard her words and he chuckled quietly. “I doubt anyone knows where I am, but if they would use their nose they could track my scent.” The yellow tabby and white tom nodded. "True, true. They could find you if they wanted." He smiled at her again. “I don’t need anyone’s permission to come out here anyway. But yes, Russetfur told me I could go back to the warriors den now.” "That must be nice, huh? I bet you are so happy to finally be back where you belong and you can be on patrols now, right?" Lightningstrike lowered his muzzle and rubbed the side of his face with his leg. There was water trickling down his nose bridge from his forehead and it was tickling him. Some of his fur tickled his nose and he sneezed. The you warrior looked back up and gave a lazy smile. He nodded at her next words. He wasn't sure what to really reply to that with so he didn't say anything at all. “Have you been out here long? Is the water warm?” Lightningstrike shook his head. "No, not too long. Swimming just soothes me, you know. And it started out feeling cold but you get used to it quickly. It's strange but it actually seems like it's warmer the father you go out." He mewed, explaining. He got a little embarrassed but covered it up with a charismatic smile that made his amber eyes shine. Words || 279 Tagged || dylan as Smallbrook

Smallbrook - 522 WordsTags: Lightningstrike [Minteh Freshness]Notes: This should be interesting..... Smallbrook was glad that at least someone was out here, that way she could say that she wasn’t alone. But would it really matter if she was alone? No, she was fine with being alone, but having someone out here meant she could use them to help her. If another warrior saw her, and saw that she was fine, surely that would mean that she could be cleared completely to do all warrior activities, and not just be in the den. She grinned at the thought, this could be very useful. ”Well I hope they could find me at least, it’s not like I am hard to find. And they wouldn’t be very good warriors if they couldn’t find little old me, right?” And the grin was back. It was true, Smallbrook rarely was any other place other than the Lakeshore or at the river fishing.
She nodded at his next comment. ”Of course I’m glad I can go on patrols again. Would you want to be in a den, and told not to move or do anything for a quarter moon? I’m no good for fighting, and all I can do to help the clan is hunt, so I need to be able to at least do that.” And it was true, she and everyone else in the clan probably knew that fighting would never be Smallbrook’s forte. Fighting with words, oh she could do that well, but with claws? She would surely lose. She was more of the cat to find a lost clanmate, or squeeze into impossible to fit places. ”Who knows, we may be on the same patrol in the near future and find that I can move circles around you!” Smallbrook chuckled.
The she-cat had gotten lost in her own thoughts for a few moments when she heard him sneeze. She looked at him curiously. ”I didn’t get you sick did I? I promise I was cleared and everything.” Smallbrook was a little concerned, surely she hadn’t gotten the tom sick. But it was just one sneeze, surely that didn’t mean he was sick.
Lightningstrike was right, though there was nothing like going for a swim. It was not only soothing, but it was relaxing and it was the perfect exercise for a cat who had been cooped up in a den for far too long. ”I love a good swim, it just makes me feel so relaxed afterward.” The she-cat was almost daydreaming about going in the water. ”It’s warmer the further you go out? I’ve never heard that before. I might have to try it.” she grinned.
She got up to test the water, and the second her paws hit the water she let out a little mewl of surprise. It was actually a little chilly. She jumped up, and backed up to get out. Smallbrook blinked rapidly at the tom and glared. ”It’s not cool at all, that is cold!” she exclaimed, trying to cover up her own embarrassment at the little mewl. ”But if you say it is warmer further out, care to join me and prove that you are right?” she smirked.

”Well I hope they could find me at least, it’s not like I am hard to find. And they wouldn’t be very good warriors if they couldn’t find little old me, right?” Lightningstrike laughed charmingly. "True, true. We can hope they would be able to find you." He liked her grinning. ”Of course I’m glad I can go on patrols again. Would you want to be in a den, and told not to move or do anything for a quarter moon? I’m no good for fighting, and all I can do to help the clan is hunt, so I need to be able to at least do that.” The yellow and ginger tabby shivered. "Ugh, I don't think I could handle that. I like being out here. You must be strong willed if you could stand that." He nodded. "You know, I bet if you tried, you could find a way to use your size and agility against others who are bigger than you." He didn't mean to be mean, he was just straightforward and blunt sometimes. ”Who knows, we may be on the same patrol in the near future and find that I can move circles around you!” Lightningstrike laughed. "Oh, I'm not sure about that. I'm pretty fast. Not many cats are better than me." He boasted, puffing out his chest somewhat. He ended up sneezing when he rubbed his face on his leg. He looked up, surprised when she spoke. Laughing, he shook his head. "Oh, no! My fur tickled my nose."The tabby feline nodded enthusiastically. "It really is relaxing! He watched her get up and go to the water. He couldn't help but snicker when she mewled in surprise. She was pretty cute when she glared. ”It’s not cool at all, that is cold! But if you say it is warmer further out, care to join me and prove that you are right?” He shrugged and smirked. "I guess it isn't as cold for me since my fur might be thicker. He waited for her to speak the second part and then his smirk grew. "Oh, you are on. Just don't complain to me if it's too cold for you." He said and then dived forward into the water without another word, a grin on his maw. Ooc || Oooh, so colorful! Words || 396 Tagged || dylan as Smallbrook

Smallbrook - 532 WordsTags: Lightningstrike [Minteh Freshness]Notes: OOh, it is pretty colors. Smallbrook couldn’t help but smile. Then again, it might be a little difficult finding her at times. When she didn’t want to be found, she was pretty good at hiding. Cats could easily use their nose to find her, but not every cat had that much sense and thought of that. The next time he spoke she beamed and took it as a compliment. ”Then again, I am also the cat that gets sick probably the most in the entire clan.” She once again smiled at the thought. Some moons it seemed as if she was sick for two days, well for a day, then back to being sick. But everyone knew on that one day she was well, she would be pushing herself and doing more on that one day than some of the lazier members of the clan did in several days.
His next comment brushed her a little bit the wrong way. Once again the glare was back in place. He had mentioned her size. She was so close to clawing his eyes and giving him a new fur trimming. But she would probably be scolded for getting into a fight so soon after her latest illness….maybe she could hold it back a little while longer. ”My size has nothing to do with me being able to fight or not. I can take on any warrior three times my size!” she hissed, and fluffed her fur, to try and make her appear bigger…it worked zero percent.
The she-cat had not grinned so much in quite some time. ”Oh, I’m definitely better than you. I just so happen to be one of those ‘not many’ cats you speak of. My speed is awesome compared to yours.” if he wanted a boasting war, he would get one. She was staring straight up at him, with pure determination in her eyes.
Oh no he didn’t! He did not just snicker at her for thinking it was cold. It looked as if the glare wasn’t good enough, now she would have to do something about it! This would just give the she-cat extra energy, fuel to prove herself. ”Your fur might be thicker? I bet it is so thick that is why you are so big. Without all that fur, I’m sure you would probably be my height.” Now she could joke about her own size, but any else mentioned it and that is when she became upset. The grin that had been on her face was now a full fledged smile.
She didn’t even respond to his last statement, and watched as he just dived in, like it wasn’t the coldest water in the world. A smirk came onto her face as she took a few pawsteps into the water. And those few pawsteps were enough to be at her limit. She had to start swimming at this point. She shuddered as she swam, not enjoying the cold on her fur. But it was nice to have a brisk swim after being confined for so long. She was so determined to catch up to Lightningstrike. ”Lead the way to the warm water before I become like the water in leafbare and freeze.”

”Then again, I am also the cat that gets sick probably the most in the entire clan.” The yellow tabby tom thought for a moment before speaking. "I have noticed that when you get done being sick and the medicine cat lets you out of the den, you push yourself. Maybe if you relax for a few days and then over a period work your way back to pushing yourself hard, you might not get sick quite as often." Lightningstrike said thoughtfully. He just barely held back a laugh as she got all defensive at his next comment. "Easy there sweetheart, I didn't mean to rub your fur wrong. You said you weren't very good at fighting and I thought to give you some pointers. If you had someone help you make your own kind of techniques that can help you in a battle, then the warriors from other clans will underestimate you until they are lying in the dirt, winded and hurt, with you standing over them as victor." No one could mistake the purr that was in his voice, even as he kept from laughing. When she tried to fluff up her fur, it made her look like a kit trying to stand up to a leaf that had scared her. Lightningstrike chuckled and smirked. "I highly doubt it. I'm almost as fast as Windclan warriors. I wouldn't doubt it if I was actually faster than them." He boasted again. "Plus, with you not having as much practice with running while being sick so often, I'm quite certain you wouldn't be able to beat me." It was quite hilarious to him with how much she tried to glare at him when she ended up just grinning at him instead. He didn't think he had ever had a she-cat glare at him before, most of them just started at him with soft eyes, wishing they could be his mate. He knew it was going to be fun getting her to fall in love with him. It might even be a challenge. That thought made him perk right up and his eyes to start shining. ”Your fur might be thicker? I bet it is so thick that is why you are so big. Without all that fur, I’m sure you would probably be my height.”Lightningstrike laughed. So she could make fun of her size but no one else could even comment on it? Well then, he will just have to make it to where she won't mind. "Hey, my fur is thick not long! So that comment is untrue." He said, jokingly. "Is that complaining I hear back there?" The yellow tabby and white tom said, glancing back at her with a smirk. "It is both warmer and calmer the closer you get to the island. At least it feels like it to me."Words || 485 Tagged || dylan as Smallbrook

Smallbrook - 455 WordsTags: Lightningstrike [Minteh Freshness ]Notes: This has got to be one of the most interesting pair of cats XDD. Like an old married couple. Smallbrook couldn't help but look at the tom as if he had multiple heads. Was he seriously suggesting to her that she not push herself? How else would she get to help the clan, or well move? Her staying in camp would only hurt everyone else. And resting was something she didn't know how to do. "You do know relaxing isn't a word I know how to do, right?" she cheekily commented, not able to hold in her retort. "I've actually thought about trying to work my way back, but my mind and body have two different ideas it seems, and my mind usually wins. My body tells me to stop, but my mind says to go. It gets all jumbled up in there sometimes. Drives me nuts." came her next reply.
Well if he didn't want to rub her fur the wrong way, he should not have said what he did. That was simple enough in her mind. It even earned a scoff coming from her mouth. Everyone seemed to be good at rubbing her fur the wrong way, and Smallbrook wasn't some pushover that would allow it to happen. "My mentor said I wouldn't need to know how to fight well, and that hunting was my gift so I should focus on it. I think a certain cat was just too afraid for me to fight. So if you find some cat like that, let me know. I would love to use my hunting skills for fighting." And then the tom had the audacity to purr! What kind of cat does that? Here she was being completely serious, and he was purring? Toms were mousebrained sometimes.
Ooh, and look at the big tom praising himself. "Someone sure took some extra confidence herbs this morning. I see they did you well." And there it went, the snark Smallbrook was known for. "You just wish you could be as fast as me. It doesn't matter if I am sick or well, I could beat you paws down. Because I am awesome." Smallbrook smirked.
At least now they were to a joking moment, and Smallbrook had to laugh with him. "Alright Mr. Sensitive about my fur." Well, she had tried to keep it in, but the laugh just continued. "If it makes you feel better to think your fur is just thick....."
And the glare was back. "No, I think you need to get your ears checked. Clearly you can't hear that I would never complain. I hear in toms the first thing to go is their hearing." Smallbrook retorted with a huff. "I bet with your thick fur the whole area feels warmer. Some of us don't have this so called thick fur." she meowed.

My body tells me to stop, but my mind says to go. It gets all jumbled up in there sometimes. Drives me nuts." The yellow tabby tom chuckled at that. "Maybe you just need someone to help you out and make sure you take it easy for a few days." He said, trying to be somewhat serious but his amber eyes showed his smile even if his tone didn't. "My mentor said I wouldn't need to know how to fight well, and that hunting was my gift so I should focus on it. I think a certain cat was just too afraid for me to fight. So if you find some cat like that, let me know. I would love to use my hunting skills for fighting." Lightningstrike couldn't help but chuckle at that. He was just imagining this kit sized warrior using hunting skills on a large warrior. "Now, now, settle down. Don't go getting your fur in a wad. I was just trying to be helpful. Sometimes there are times when all cats have to fight and in those fights a cat might be battling two others at a time. I just figured you might want to be ready in case that happens."The yellow tabby warrior couldn't help but roll his eyes at Smallbrook's next comments. "Very doubtful. No one can beat me and certainly not you." a smirk was upon his maw as he said this and after he finished speaking. At her other comments he feigned being hurt. "Hey! I am not sensitive about my fur. But really, it is only short and thick.""No, I think you need to get your ears checked. Clearly you can't hear that I would never complain. I hear in toms the first thing to go is their hearing." Smallbrook retorted with a huff. "I bet with your thick fur the whole area feels warmer. Some of us don't have this so called thick fur." His eyes rolled once more. "My hearing is just fine. I'm not even old enough for anything to start giving out." He huffed himself. "Plus, just because my fur is thick doesn't mean I can't feel the chill, especially in water. But seriously, you can't feel the water getting warmer the closer we get to the island?" He asked. They were just about halfway to the island by now and he could start to feel the change in temperature in the water and the closer to the island they got, the warmer it felt to him.
