Moonshadow was a bit surprised the other day when the leader called them all for a clan meeting. She had gotten her first apprentice. She still couldn't wrap her mind around the fact that she had her first apprentice. She didn't know Whirlpaw that much but Raggedstar had chosen her for a reason and she was going to full fill that duty the best she could. But that was still nerve racking for the newer warrior. She was so used to doing her own thing everyday she was trying to get used to the whole, I have to order someone else around kind of attitude. The gray she-cat was currently in camp when her mind was running through all of this in formation. The leaves had started changing, she noticed especially in Thunderclan. Moonshadow loved Shadowclan with all of her heart but she always like to watch the leaves of the trees in Thunderclan change. There were a few trees in Shadowclan that changed color and then fell to the ground but over there is was almost every tree. She just wanted to admire the beauty a bit. But with Thunderclan and Shadowclan still at high tensions she had been refrained from going to watch. She just then stood up her gray fur was sleek against her body and she stretched out by lowering her chest to the ground and extending her claws forward.
Relaxing a normal standing form she just then shook out her short coat. It was a bit cooler today, it was slowly getting colder as the days going on. Leafbare seemed to be right around the corner which didn't bother her that much. She didn't like that prey was hard to find but she found beauty in the snow covered land and the stillness that usually came with it. The gray she-cat blinked and looked around camp, she had already taken Whirlpaw out for training today and the young tom was just finishing chores. Usually most other mentors would have something to eat but Moonshadow wasn't particularly hungry at the moment. She was more thirsty. She wanted to head out of camp. She just then started towards the camp entrance the sun was high in the sky and she just found herself glancing at the leaders den for who knows how many times today. She usually lost count because it was just a habit that she did everyday now. She just found herself wanting a glance of the large dark tom. She didn't know what would happen if the green eyes would lock with hers. She just hoped that it would happen or not happen both. She was confused herself about what Raggedstar was to her. Because he was the leader but she felt like in that short time that they spent together she was more his friend. She just then turned and headed out of camp before she stood there staring too long.
Out in the forest she just padded forward her paws easily leading her to where she wanted to go. With a parched mouth it wasn't before long the medium sized warrior found herself in front of the small pool. She just crouched down in front of the small pool of water. Looking down she noticed her gray form staring back up at her. Her dark amber eyes the color of some of the leaves that would fall from the sky. She just didn't look long before lapping up the cold water. The ripple distorting her own image. She just sat up and sat near the pool her tail curled around her paws she didn't want to move just quite yet.

Raggedstar lay with a finch gripped tightly between his paws, feathers littering the den floor moving around from the wind caused by his twitching tail. His mind was on Cuckoopaw, the young apprentice had gone missing nearly a moon ago and he feared the tom would not be returning anytime soon, after performing the apprentice ceremony he had come to miss training the cocky tom who always had a sharp response to anything he said, often followed by an apology after realising he had just sassed the clan leader. He laughed a rough laugh at the thought of the apprentice frantically searching for words when he had just become his apprentice, Raggedstar could only hope that Starclan watched over the apprentice wherever he had gone.
Though the apprentice was not the only thing on his mind, he had found himself wanting to see Moonshadow after their time together not too long ago. Something about her had him curious to get to know her and spend more time with her, every now and then he'd catch her glancing over at his den through the protected entrance and it made him wonder if she felt something similar to him. He hoped she hadn't seen her becoming a mentor a thank you for helping him days before the ceremony, Raggedstar truly believed she was more than ready for her first apprentice with most of the cats in Shadowclan having had their first apprentices anyway, never mind that her personality would hopefully be able to draw out Whirlpaws happiness as she had done so for him. His tail twitched slightly as he stared blankly at the carcass of his most recent meal as his thoughts ran wild though now they didn't ruin his mood as they once did. Raggedstar had come to enjoy the life of being a leader, in comparison to when he was a warrior he found he was easily more respected and all of his views were taken into account and he finally felt fully in control of the clan.
Large jaw opened displayed yellow toned pointed teeth as he yawned before pulling his body up balancing his weight on four paws before pushing through the sheltered entrance. The sun hit his black pelt tinting it with brown and red tones, the weather was cooler telling the clans that Greenleaf was over. His stomach seemed to drop as the thoughts of Leafbare and the illnesses and hard times it brought to the clans; it would be his first time leading his clan through the harsh weather and he was determined to make the clan successful through those hard times. His tail lashed from side to side as he scanned the camp for movement, it was silent with few cats padding in and out of dens. He padded softly toward the entrance wandering aimlessly outside the camp, he found himself heading toward the small pool. Sadness seemed to strike him in that moment as a vivid memory of Cuckoopaw fetching water for the elders and queens, he was so full of life and possessed incredible strength for such a small cat - carrying the large moss balls whilst running and keeping up with Raggedstar as the ran back and forth from the camp. He had taken Cuckoopaw on as an apprentice because it had been moons since he mentored, even as deputy he mentored one apprentice during that time whilst other warriors took on more than two and some took more than three in that time. He missed being able to pass on his ideas to a younger cat and develop that close relationship, but it seemed that he would have to wait another few moons longer before he could actually do that due to Cuckoospaws disappearance.
His head lifted as he stood behind a grey figure he instantly recognised, her presence had woken him from his depressing thoughts and it felt as though electricity was shooting through his body as he struggled to repress a purr. He was happy to see Moonshadow, she had become his friend which was something Raggedstar had missed for far too many moons. He stepped forward, his footsteps not too loud but purposefully loud enough that she would detect his presence easily enough. "Hello Moonshadow." he mewed softly, careful not to sit too close to her. He sat down near her, coiling his matted tail around his large paws, the water was clear and still allowing him to see the reflection of the purely grey cat with warm toned eyes he felt he often stared at for far to long. Looking away from her reflection to his own he saw how different the pair were, she had smooth fur while his was long bushy with parts of it matted even though it was clean. Turning a soft gaze at Moonshadow he spoke once more, "I hope I'm not disturbing you." he mewed softly - his voice gentle and calm. "How is Whirlpaws training going?", he truly was curious of how the cat was progressing and if his mood had improved in anyway, not that he was a disobedient tom but he lacked energy that he hoped would be returned through his apprenticeship with Moonshadow.

Moonshadow felt the cooler air hit her pelt and nose. Twitching her nose slightly she just looked back down at the water from the small pool sitting right in front of her paws. The reflection was still once more. She just looked at the amber eyes before looking back up at the trees off in the distance. She wanted to terribly see the leaves fall from the border. But she knew going by herself might be dangerous and going with a group might be just as dangerous considering how the tension between Shadowclan and Thunderclan was going. Casting her gaze back at the water her amber eyes was staring back up at her. She just tilted her head slightly and wondered I wondered what my mother looked like. Do look like her? She remembered asking her adopted mother this question. She could hear the Queen's voice in her head simply explained that the color of her pelt was just like her mother's but her eyes now those were her fathers. But she always wondered if her mother would actually like her. The gray she-cat just then noticed movement. It was coming behind her.
Flicking her right ear back she heard the paw steps of a cat. She didn't turn her head until the cat came up beside her because the warrior had recognized his scent right away. She forced to keep her pelt from prickling it was something she wondered if it would happen again. It seemed that Starclan wanted them to have a chat again. The warrior didn't know what the tom was thinking though so it was nerve racking for her. But she just turned her head and her amber gaze landed on the tom. She heard his greeting and she smiled at the leader and said, "Hello Raggedstar. Then she looked back at the water. She flicked her gaze at the toms reflection the green from his pelt stood out like normal. Lifting her gaze so he wouldn't notice that she was looking at his reflection she just watched as his green eyes came up as well.
Moonshadow saw the warmth in them. She just blinked slightly and then shook her head no. "No. Not at all." Her voice poured out from her body. She just then looked back towards Thunderclan's border. The tom's voice made her turn back towards the large dark tom. She just then registered the question he was asking her. It was about Whirlpaw her new apprentice. She only had been training for a few sunrises. From what she knew about the tom was nothing. He seemed to be a blank slate showing nothing. It was odd. Plus there might have been other warriors that could have done better but she had a feeling that Raggedstar thought she was good for the job. She didn't know if it was because the young tom was quite odd. She didn't mind but he seemed to be learning quite well. She would need time to break that shell of his but that was something she was taking one paw step at a time. The gray she-cat just shrugged and said, "He seems to be learning quite well. But he is an odd one, he doesn't like to show his emotions so its hard to judge what he's enjoying and what he is not but I think that will come with time. I'm going to be patient with him, there could be something about his kithood that no body know about that is making him like this. But I will just have to see with time." She just then looked back at her reflection. "I just hope that I am able to teach him all that he needs to know. I'm afraid I'll forget something or teach him wrong." Her concerns with training an apprentice came spilling out of her mouth before she could filter it. It was something that Moonshadow had a problem with. She just looked back at Raggedstar searching his face for what he was thinking.

Raggedstar met her level gaze, he was still stunned by her beauty and he knew he was interested in this she-cat. And Starclan willing he hoped she felt something similar, he constantly kept an eye out for her in camp, he strained his ears from his den to see if he could hear her voice though he kept his distance. He was fond, yes, but he had his doubts about following through with any form of relationship with Moonshadow. From a young age Raggedstar wanted a mate, a family and to be surrounded by friends but as he grew up, his responsibilities grew more than he had ever imagined and he wasn't sure if he could keep to his original dreams, but oh how he wanted to. After all, Moonshadow was beautiful in his eyes, her fur was smooth unlike his own and her voice was soothing to his ears, he could listen to her speak for moons. He turned his head back to their reflection, his pelt felt too warm and he felt that he had stared at her, his matted tail lay coiled around his paws twitched slightly. He looked at her reflection briefly, and then his own, her grey pelt was a nice contrast to his black, her short haired smooth fur in comparison to his long matted fur, they were almost the complete opposite of each other in appearance.
"He seems to be learning quite well. But he is an odd one, he doesn't like to show his emotions so its hard to judge what he's enjoying and what he is not but I think that will come with time. I'm going to be patient with him, there could be something about his kithood that no body know about that is making him like this. But I will just have to see with time." her voice drew him from his thoughts and he met her eyes in the reflection of the pool beside them. He lifted his broad head to look at her with kind eyes though he stayed silent as if he felt she wasn't quite finished speaking. "I just hope that I am able to teach him all that he needs to know. I'm afraid I'll forget something or teach him wrong." Raggedstar smiled and let out a soft purr rumbling deep in his chest, shaking his head slightly. "I chose you to mentor him with good reason." he mewed softly meeting her gaze before he continued on. "Whirlpaw has no family in the clan, his father was a rogue and his mother was clan born. The rogue was called Yusei and he spent little time with Whirlpaw mother who was an apprentice at the time, and before she learned she was pregnant Icestar ordered Yusei to leave. His mother had Whirlpaw, her single kit." he voice was quiet and deep. He knew Moonshadow needed to know about her apprentice and why he acted so differently, it was moons ago and few of the clan remembered the whole ordeal but Raggedstar was deputy at that point - he could never forget the coldness of Icestars decision. "She received her warrior name when Whirlpaw was weaned onto fresh kill and then Icestar banished her for mating with an outsider." he glanced at his paws as he finished speaking.
Uncoiling his tail from around his paws to lie freely behind his he continued, his eyes drifting toward their reflections once more. "He changed after that, and I could never blame him for it. He seemed to shut down completely, he must've felt so alone." he muttered softly. "I never agreed with Icestars decision, I don't believe Whirlpaw won't be a good warrior due to not being clan born." he mewed urgently, Raggedstar was not the biggest fan of kittypets and rogues but he would never exile a clan mate. "I was never even consulted on the matter, none of the clan was." he snorted harshly. Raggedstar had admired Icestar - of course but he didn't always agree with his choices, although he could care less about Yusei staying in the clan as an untrained rogue he was practically useless to them but Whirlpaws mother was a trained young warrior who would have continued to serve them for moons, he didn't see the logic in banishing her. Starclan would have forgiven her mistake surely, his eyes narrowed as he thought. Looking back at her he continued, "I tell you this for a reason. I believe you can teach this cat all he needs to know and more, you helped me once and I believe you can help him. He needs a friend, and he needs to be reminded how to have fun and interact with other cats." he dipped his head as he spoke, his voice confident and clear. "You're not like most younger warriors in the clan who still have more energy than they know what to do with, your calmer, and that is something you will need to use to coax Whirlpaw out of his shell."
He grinned up at her his eyes bright, "Plus, if you need help just pester other warriors or even me." he purred with a laugh. "Though I doubt you'll need it! Mentoring is easier than it seems." he smiled kindly at her, flicking his long tail against her flank in a friendly gesture. The breeze ruffled his fur slightly making it lift slightly on his back and his whiskers twitched, leaf bare was cold and coming in stronger than he had expected. He knew prey would begin to vanish within the next few moons and his clan would grow thin and he knew he couldn't afford taking any warriors into battle with Thunderclan and part of him wanted to enjoy the moons of peace by the side of Moonshadow, but he denied this thought and pushed it away. "I was thinking of taking on another apprentice, since Cuckoopaw seems to have left us." he mewed softly, it was true. He wanted to train another cat in full, it had been moons since he last had an apprentice and perhaps next newleaf more kits will come around to be trained, Starclan willing of course.

Moonshadow just looked at the leader, she felt connected to this tom. It was like Starclan had brought them together for some reason. She wondered why but she didn't know that she helped the leader. All she did was talk to him. She just remembered her own past and thought about Whirlpaw. She hadn't had the best kithood but she wouldn't change it because it made her who she was now and she knew that if she were to ever have kits she would raise them like she always wished she was. But now she didn't blame her father for what he had done it must had been hard for him to look at her and see his mate. She remembered her mother's sister telling her how much she looked like her mother Grayflower. But she didn't know how concerned she was about her own apprentice before spilling it all out to Raggedstar. This was the one thing she didn't like about herself being impulsive and saying or doing things before her brain could even catch up. The gray warrior then noticed the smile appear on his handsome face. The purr made her shiver slightly, she liked to hear that from him. She just felt her pelt slowly heat up. They were having a serious conversation and she should be focused on that but those little things made her mind slightly wander else where.
Moonshadow just locked her dark amber gaze on the leader as he spoke about Whirlpaw. She just narrowed her eyes willing herself to be focused on what the tom was saying. Then when he said that Whirlpaw's mother was only an apprentice Moonshadow's brain clicked. She remembered the she-cat now. Moonshadow was an apprentice with her. Only for a moon or so it was a long time ago. But Moonshadow knew which cat he was talking about. She just tried to remember what happened to that she-cat. Moonshadow felt bad at this point because when she was an apprentice she was so focused on herself and impressing her father she didn't remember what happened to that other apprentice. She just then focused on the dark handsome tom who was telling the story. She just then gasped slightly. Icestar banished her? Thats when Moonshadow had her own mini flash back to that warrior ceremony, she had just been made a warrior a couple moons before. She was sitting in the shadows away from the other cats and didn't say anything or feel anything towards the banished cat because she was loyal to the leader. That when she came back to here and now.
The leader now was looking at his own paws and uncoiled his tail before looking at the reflections in the small pool. She noticed her body moving before she could stop it. He was already sitting close to her but she felt like she needed to be closer. So shuffling her way over she moved closer to the tom. Her heart was beating fast as she felt her pelt touch his ever so slightly. She didn't say anything because she could tell that he wasn't done. Moonshadow listened as Raggedstar finished telling his story about her apprentice. She felt a bit sorry for Whirlpaw but she knew that felling sorry wouldn't help him. But maybe if she told him her own story maybe he wouldn't feel so alone. Because he had a family and it was Shadowclan. He may think that the clan had betrayed him but Raggedstar wasn't Icestar and she would have to teach him that Raggedstar wouldn't do that. That she and him could become his new family.
Thats when Raggedstar was complementing her and she just got a tad shy, she was sitting close to him their fur brushing slightly. A spark shot through her. She was go happy being here next to Raggedstar and now that they had had a serious conversation maybe they could lighten it up. Raggedstar seemed to be reading her thoughts because he was being more cheerful. She just smiled at him when he suggested that she could ask him for help when training her apprentice. With his words of confidence she just then smiled brightly at him. When the tom started laughing she just smiled even more because she loved the sound of his laughter. Thats when his tail touched her back. She just then felt her body all tense up slightly but then relaxed and a purr escaped from her body. I really like this tom. The thought just came to her mind and she was glad she didn't that out loud. "Thank you for telling me about Whirlpaw, I remember faintly about that happening. I am embarrassed that I didn't remember. But I just have to show him that you and I could be his new family. Icestar may not have but we could be that for him." Then she just smiled at the leader. And then she heard him talk about his apprentice that ran off. She just then put her tail on his back comforting him slightly.
"Its not your fault he ran of. Clan life wasn't for him. There will be new kits for you to watch grow and you may take one on. Because any kit would be honored to have the leader show interest in them." Then she looked back at their reflections. Their appearance was so different but for some reason it worked. She just hoped he was feeling the same thing that she was.

The large black tom watched her with undisguised awe, her fur was perfectly soft, her eyes gentle and her features well proportioned. Part of him wanted to blurt out how much he felt for her, but he stayed silent for now. Raggedstars long tail coiled around his paws, the long hairs dragging dirt along with it as the she-cat began to speak."Thank you for telling me about Whirlpaw, I remember faintly about that happening. I am embarrassed that I didn't remember. But I just have to show him that you and I could be his new family. Icestar may not have but we could be that for him." His ears perked at the words 'You and I could be his new family.', he stayed silent, trying to convince himself that he was reading too much into her words and yet he could convince himself of it. Hope blossomed in his chest for something more than a friendship and yet, he couldn't say it out loud.
"Don't be embarrassed, it was such a terrible decision by Icestar, really. I think the whole clan repressed it." he mewed softly. "He will always have a family and home with Shadowclan as long as I live. He should not have suffered for his mothers mistake of falling in love with a rogue, she was only young too." his tail lashed slightly, Raggedstar had been Icestars only deputy for his nine lives, and even though he served him loyally and respected his skill as a warrior, his decisions were ruthless and detrimental to the clan. He was missed, but his rash decisions were not. "If I ever start making horrible choices, Starclan forbid, you have my permission to beat me up until I see reason." he laughed lightly, his tail pressed lightly against her back, the purr making him smile brightly as he looked at her through cheerful eyes. "Its not your fault he ran of. Clan life wasn't for him. There will be new kits for you to watch grow and you may take one on. Because any kit would be honored to have the leader show interest in them." Raggedstar let out a loud rumbling purr at her words, it was true, as a kit, Raggedstar had adored Foxstars attention and wanted to be mentored by her so badly. "I'm sure I'll find someone in the end." he mewed hopefully, the thought of training a kit warmed his heart. A kit to train into a warrior, who would become his deputy then leader after him was Raggedstars dream, a guilty dream with Brackenshade still as his deputy.
"I worry for Brackenshade, Moonshadow." he mewed softly, his tail dropping from her back and curling back around his paws like a shield. "He's aggressive, and I've seen the look in his eyes, a look of jealousy and ambition since he lost his love to Rockettail. I don't believe he's suitable to lead after me, should anything happen, but I'm worried I'm just becoming paranoid." his voice was quiet as thought he felt if he spoke to loud the younger tom would hear him. It was true it worries of Brackenshade being an unsuitable leader, sure, he would be a powerful leader, but sometimes going into battle before discussing the issue was foolish. He would be a foolish leader who allowed petty hate to cloud his judgement and that worried Raggedstar. He cast his gaze downwards in slight shame, perhaps he shouldn't have burdened her with his inner most thoughts, after all, most cats saw a paranoid leader as a bad leader. "Ignore me, my paranoia is a great flaw, if I'm honest." he purred in an attempt to brush it off.
Pushing himself to his paws, he padded closer to the water, lapping up some of it before lying by the dry lands edge with a tired huff. Part of him wanted to ask her about herself, and another just enjoyed the silence by her side.
