Snowy paws moved silently on the soft grass that covered the territory leading to the great river with incredible rapids, some so high they could almost be considered waterfalls as the water pushed through rocks over a small ledge with incredible strength. It was a piece was a favourite of Foxpaws, as a cat who couldn't bring herself to hurt another cat to the extreme lengths that the warriors could. Today she was alone without Russetfur for the first day in weeks and she was terribly happy about it, not that she didn't adore her mentor as any apprentice would but not even Starclan could expect her to turn her nose up at a change in company for a few moments. Foxpaw was in search for herbs today, unlike warriors she didn't go to the river to hunt or check the borders but to hunt for the herbs that grew near the damp conditions quite happily; Colts foot, comfrey root and marigold. Their stocks were usually well filled by herself and Russterfur and they had been running low on a few of these water loving plants which made Foxpaw eager to stretch her legs and find some.
She dropped her jaw slightly hoping to find the scent of the herbs entwined with the calming smells of the river and other plants that were carried along by the light wind that was typical of the area. Her ears perked happily as she dashed closer toward the bank of the river to a small bunch of marigold lying ready to be picked for the medicine stash. She turned her rump toward the river with her hind legs holding her just on the edge as she leaned forward on her forepaws pulling the marigold softly as not to damage it, she went to sit up on her hind legs and as she thrust her weight behind her she became unbalanced, her body falling back first into the river. Surprise and fear washed over the small apprentice, she wasn't a swimmer due to not have been trained completely in the art of swimming though she had the basics down. She struggled to push her body over so she could paddle with her legs. Her body twisted with her head coming out of the water at short intervals gasping for air each time.
The current moved her slightly downstream as her paws managed to catch one of the rocks embedded in the river floor, she grasped into it's jagged edges her claws tightening to rotate her body upward so she could push herself safety to shore. Her claws sunk into the rivers edge, they earth soft beneath her falling away under her paws as she frantically tried to pull herself onto the soft grass. She caught hold of firm earth and heaved her body onto the soft grass with a huff, her ears pressed flat against her head as she collapsed onto the grass from exhaustion. Her long fur clung to her body showing her small frame, her long tail hung over the egde that met the river her body too tired to move it. Foxpaw only realised as she lay in silence her breathing quick that she had lost the precious marigold, dread coated her from head to tail as she wondered how Russetfur would react. She had been too careless! Foxpaw wanted to wail like a kit, she had never fallen into the river like that before, in fact, she rarely made a mistake and she didn't want to start making them. She let out a harsh breath, "Foxdung." her green eyes glinted in the sun as she looked up into the sky with pure exhaustion her eyes closing slowly, blinking at a slow pace as though she was close to falling asleep.
