Evening was beginning to spread across the Windclan camp in the proof of the deep shadows stretching quickly over the shallow scoop in the ground and covering it completely in shadows. A tall, dark shape slinked into the camp through the entrance without a word and trotted in the direction of the freshkill pile. Thistleclaw cast nary a glance at anyone before he set down two rabbits on the well stocked pile. Even the weight of two rabbits dangling from his mouth by their ears hadn't kept him from holding his head level, his height more than enough to prevent the prey from dragging on the ground.
Though after dropping his catch, the experienced warrior showed signs of exhaustion from dutifully completing all his warrior tasks that day, and his shoulders sagged slightly, his movements slower. Now he could finally relax and take his own share from the fruits of Windclan's bountiful abundance of prey and skilled hunters. Thistleclaw picked back up one of the rabbits he had carried in, and stalked toward the darkest shadows of the clearing to try and eat his dinner antisocially. Like a tall shadow, Thistleclaw's dark gray tabby pelt blended right into the darkness, and he crouched down to nibble on his rabbit with a completely stone-faced expression.

The pale tabby she-cat padded into camp several moments later, carrying a little over half a dozen field mice by their tails. She had been hunting for most of the day, missing a few rabbits and a stray squirrel that crossed over the border. Feeling defeated, the warrior started back toward camp, tired and hungry when she quite literally stumbled across a field mouse nest. Reaction was faster than thought as her paws scooped up mice quickly. Most of them were babies, though a few were adults. All of them would feed her clanmates, so Mintfeather proudly gathered up all the ones she had killed and headed back, a slight spring to her step now that she had caught prey.
Mintfeather dropped her prey off at the prey pile, marveling and feeling proud at how much prey her clan had caught. She was proud of her own kills, even if they hadn't of been rabbits, because she was still a new warrior and she loved being productive. She picked up an older rabbit from the pile, leaving the fresher ones for the queens, kits, and elders. Turning away from the pile, she was looking for a spot to eat her fill when her silver green gaze noticed a certain dark-furred tom.
Before she knew it, she started to purr happily, but quietly, and her paws carried her toward him. The young she-cat was almost to Thistleclaw when she thought that maybe he might not want company. Feeling anxious now, she slowed her steps, thinking. Mintfeather finally shrugged. I am almost to him, so I might as well go through with it. So, she set her rabbit down somewhat next to Thistleclaw, gave him a smile, and settled down to eat. Her stomach was still rolling with nervousness but she forced herself to eat, not wanting him to think anything was wrong.

Thistleclaw had taken the first couple bites from his rabbit and chewed them each for a silent moment before, out of the corner of his eye, he noticed a lithe silvery cat padding up to him, her dappled pale pelt almost like that of a Starclan cat compared to Thistleclaw and the shadowy gloom in the evening clearing. He quickly recognized Mintfeather, the she-cat who seemed to constantly show him friendliness, in sharp contrast to the rest of the clan who ignored him just as much as he ignored them. It was never out of any sort of spite or lack of clan loyalty, but simply due to the fact that Thistleclaw always gave off the vibe that he had nothing to say or feel. Usually cats felt like they were talking to a wall when they tried interacting with him. But Mintfeather was the only one who persisted, as if in the faith that Thistleclaw actually led an amiable existence. Although he was far from the sort of cat that showed it, Thistleclaw noticed.
Thistleclaw barely showed any sign that he had seen Mintfeather, though she was just barely in his range of sight, and with his gaze focused on his rabbit, he scented her cautious approach. His pale green eyes drifted in her direction for a split second as she set her own rabbit down next to him before he quickly turned his eyes back toward his food shyly when she gave him a brief smile. Thistleclaw's whiskers quivered slightly in anticipation, and he suddenly found it hard to focus on eating, getting the motions mixed up as he chewed before having taken a bite. He had no idea what to make of his own unusual reactions to Mintfeather's presence. His pelt pricked down his spine nervously. it's called crushing, Thistleclaw ;D ★ 299 words ★ Mintfeather tagged |

Mintfeather's pelt prickled all over just from the closeness and she could feel her ears starting to burn. She didn't know what to make of it, so she tried concentrating on eating the rest of her rabbit. Easier said than done. Her eyes looked even more silver in the gloomy light as her gaze roamed over him a few times before she caught herself and tried to focus on chewing.
Most of the cats in the clan had noticed the she warrior including Thistleclaw more in daily activities, even going out hunting a time or two, just the two of them. They started out curious, wondering why she was even bothering even though the two hardly ever exchanged words. Over time some stayed a bit intrigued, mostly the cats who talked non-stop, but the others mostly lost interest. They figured she would get tired of not being able to hold a conversation with the dark warrior, but no one saw what she saw. The silvery tabby she-cat saw a warrior who wasn't understood because he didn't use words to interact. This made her smile because though she liked lending an ear to everyone, it was nice to find a cat who relied on actions before words.
In this lighting, the dark tom looked even more mysterious and it made Mintfeather was to get even closer to him, to try to climb over the walls he has built, maybe knock over a few, and really understand him.
Mintfeather realized she had ended up staring at him while she spaced out, wrapped up in her thoughts, and quickly looked back down at her rabbit, surprised to see she had just one bite left. She finished it off and got up. After stretching, she sat back down, yawned, and started to clean her paws and face, taking a few chances to glance at Thistleclaw from behind her paw.

After several awkward moments, Thistleclaw finally swallowed the last bite of rabbit. It was unexpectedly more of a struggle than it ought to be to eat. Why was that? He felt frustration ebbing at him. He never had any issues quietly not letting anyone's words or actions bother him 'til now. What was it about Mintfeather that put him so on edge? Thistleclaw's thoughts spun in confusion as he absentmindedly licked his lips and paws, washing the scent of rabbit and blood from himself. Thistleclaw heard Mintfeather pause in her own eating and grooming with a stretch inbetween, and his pelt prickled all over as he sensed her gaze flicker to him each time, even though he refused to return the eye-contact.
Finally Thistleclaw couldn't take the pressure anymore, and stood up from his haunches, stretching his long legs to their full length. He decided his curiosity had gotten the better of him, and he turned his head to steal one last glance at whatever Mintfeather was up to now...and found himself meeting her eye-to-eye, their muzzles barely a whisker-length a part. Since the last time he saw her, she had ended up closer to him, and his own physical length had shortened the gap even more. Curse his long neck! Thistleclaw's breath caught in his throat, and for once, he had literally no idea what to do, how to act, or what to think. His own reflexes were lost to him, and he was frozen in place. sorry for the delay! ;w; ★ 245 words ★ Mintfeather tagged |

The pale tabby warrior got done washing her face and paws and turned her head to look at Thistleclaw as he stretched. She was going to stand up and leave but in a blink of an eye, the tom had turned to look at her and they were now almost nose to nose, just a whisker length apart. Mintfeather's ears started to burn and slowly got worse until her whole face felt like it was on fire. Her whiskers started to quiver, her lungs tightened, and her legs tried to become liquid.
Oh, Starclan, what is happening to me? Her breathing caught in her throat and then it started coming fast. D-do I like him? Silvery green eyes searched the other green gaze. Could he maybe like me back? Dropping her eyes, she started at her paws and took a step back, flustered. Doubtful. He wouldn't like me... would he? All these questions were firing through her head along with many more, making her confused and even more flustered.

Only when Mintfeather took a step back did Thistleclaw feel like he was abruptly released from a spell of full paralysis. He finally exhaled the breath he had been holding tightly, and immediately his muscle memory kicked back into gear. He quickly took his own step away, spinning his head around so he was staring into the space opposite the direction of Mintfeather. His pelt prickled almost visibly, and he didn't want Mintfeather to see a single reaction on his face, which was now contorted with undignified embarrassment, an expression he'd never worn before since becoming a warrior.
With a nervous twitch of his tail, Thistleclaw sighed nervously and began to briskly walk away to where the warriors slept under the sky. He desperately wanted to hide beneath the guise of sleep, forget about his racing feelings, and refresh himself anew for the next day as the serious and cool tom he always was, without calling any attention or interaction to himself. He and Mintfeather had not exchanged a single word this evening, but he felt that more had happened between them than he ever expected or asked for. He had no idea how to deal with these emotions. uh oh Thistleclaw's making a run for it XD ★ 199 words ★ Mintfeather tagged |

As the dark tom took a step back, turned away, and started to walk away toward the warriors den as if nothing had happened, Mintfeather started to have doubts. Does...does he not like me? Did he not feel anything right then? Her gaze followed him all the way to the warriors den, her head drooping with each pawstep and she curled her tail about her protectively. She looked away before he entered the den and lifted her chin so she was staring at the sky. The sun had already set and their ancestors started to show. Please guide me to make the right choice. She pleaded, her eyes roaming the stars above. When nothing happened, she sighed sadly and stood up, turning toward the warrior's den and padded towards it.
Upon entering, her gaze instantly sought Thistleclaw out. When she found him, she started at him for a moment, not moving. When he didn't move, she sighed quietly and maneuvered her way to her nest. She smiled when she reached it, her brother, Cloudfang, already in his nest next to hers. Mintfeather took a few turns and then settled down, curling up tight with her back pressed against her brother's.

After finding a spot in the clearing near the edge opposite from his previous eating place where the ground was soft with sand, Thistleclaw dropped his tall body down from his long legs silently, flexing his limbs and tucking his paws into the warmth of his belly. He turned his head away from the rest of the clanmates and nosed his own side, rising and falling with his relaxing breaths. Being alone seemed to calm him down now. His lack of social experience put him in a situation where he was at a loss at what to do, and when he wasn't confident with his situation, he wasn't okay. But now Thistleclaw was forgetting all his worries as his previous exhaustion from the day's work returned, and he welcomed sleep and the prelude to a fresh, new day. I guess that's it for now~ 83 I won't move it so others can read on the cuteness <3 ★ 138 words ★ Mintfeather tagged |
