Breeze stood up slowly and carefully when Tigerstep put her down, careful not to put any weight on her front paw. She still put it on the ground, but she put absolutely no pressure on it at all. Her tail was dragging on the ground and she was having a hard time keeping her head from hanging.
She lifted her head a little bit as Howlingstar started to speak to her. Her first instinct was to hold her name back, not to let a bunch of stranger cats know it. When she pushed that one away, her second reaction would to call herself Breeze. But, her mother had told her, or at least what she was sure had been her mother, to tell them the secret name that Lilyfreckle had given her. Her mother had of told her that it was how the cats in the Clan's got their names, starting with kit at the end of their name when they were just a kitten, replace kit with paw when they reached six moons though Breeze still didn't completely understand that part. Lilyfreckle had explained it but Breeze had just thought that as soon as the kit stopped relying on it's mother's milk is when the name should change, but she shrugged it off. And then a final suffix would replace paw in the end when the young cat, or apprentice as her mother had called it, became a 'warrior.' The only time it would change was if a cat became the leader, then the last part of the name would become star.
Breeze thought about the secret name, or names on how you looked at it, that she had received from her mother. Whitekit, then Whitepaw, and just before her mother died-Whitedapple. She knew her mother was going back and forth between Whitedapple, Whitesplash, and Whiteheart but had finally told her daughter that her name would be Whitedapple.
Breeze blinked a few times, realizing she'd spaced off for a little bit, but not too long. "My..my name is Whitedapple." It felt weird telling these cats her secret name, for only her and Lilyfreckle had shared it. Was this a good idea? She had no idea, but she trusted her mother, even after death.

Tigerstep was surprised when the she-cat on his back actually talked. He figured she was too worn-out to talk. She confirmed that she was indeed awake, and that she would appreciate it if she was let down. The tom could tell that she was trying to sound stronger than she really was. Her voice sounded very tired and raspy. After a little talking, her voice did sound a little less raspy, but still very tired. There was some movement at the camp entrance, and the medicine cat's green eyes darted over to see Rockpath and the rest of the morning patrol emerge into the crowd of cats. The dark red and brown tabby growled at the rest of Thunderclan to go back to their duties and to quit crowding. Soon enough, the rest of the clan began to slowly break up and move on, their eyes still glancing curiously at the strange she-cat. Tigerstep dipped his head gratefully at Rockpath.
Tigerstep smiled when Howlingstar told him that he could tend the she-cat, and told him that he should give her something to eat as well. The tiger-striped tom was once again reminded of how much of a caring leader his leader was. He knew for a fact that other leaders wouldn't be this welcoming to a stranger in their camp. Howlingstar went on to ask the she-cat her name. The she-cat was now standing up one her own, although being careful not to put any weight on her hurt paw. Tigerstep stuck close to her, in case she lost balance or something. The she-cat hesitated after being asked her name, and seemed to space off for a short amount of time before coming to again. She blinked a few times. The tom almost gasped aloud when the she-cat said that her name was Whitedapple. "Whitedapple...? That's a clan cat's name, no doubt, but you don't smell like any of the other clans. Where exactly did you come from?" Tigerstep asked, a small amount of suspicion creeping into his dark green eyes.

Rockpath just watched the she-cat. He noticed that Howlingstar gave him a nod and he nodded back to the leader standing still behind the leader waiting to hear what this she-cat had to say. He also noticed that Tigerstep nodded to him and he nodded back to the medicine cat. He turned his head back to the she-cat that was now standing next to Tigerstep. He narrowed his green eyes and had a serious look on his face. Then he realized what he was doing and softened his expression a bit. Though she might not even notice him in the background she was probably still nervous being around so many cats, and he knew that his face and body language right now was probably not helping anything at all.
He knew that Howlingstar was going to let the cat stay until she healed up and they got to know her a little more before deciding to let her stay in the clan or not. He just blinked his bright green eyes and scanned the clan once more. Most of the clan had returned to there normal duties and the others probably were waiting just in case Howlingstar ordered something. It was the voice of the cat that brought him back to her attention. He set his green gaze on her when she finally told them her name.
'Whitedapple? Why would an outsider have a warrior name?' He thought simply to himself, and he got a more serious look on his face. He wanted to ask a question or to speak up, but he knew that would just be disrespectful to his leader and the medicine cat. So he fought the urge to speak and just listened in stead. It was Tigerstep that said something before his leader and it was the same question that Rockpath would of asked the younger cat. He flicked his tail slightly and waited for her answer.

Howlingstar noticed how bad a shape this she-cat was in. It was just all the more reason why she needed medical attention and care as soon as possible. He estimated that she would need at least a few days of proper nourishment before she would be well enough to even think of living on her own again, and he was a kind and caring leader of a kind and caring clan. For a little bit, it seemed like the she-cat had spaced out, but then she replied, giving her name. To everyone's surprise, the name was unexpectedly exactly the format of a warrior cat's name. Howlingstar nodded in agreement with Tigerstep's comments and questions. "Indeed, that is how we name our warriors. Who gave you that name?" Howlingstar held back on all his questions, though, realizing that answering them all, and speaking at all, was difficult for the exhausted newcomer. Before waiting for Whitedapple's reply, he changed his mind and suggested rhetorically, "Why don't we let Whitedapple get some rest and care? Then we can ask all the other questions later." He blinked at Tigerstep with his suggestion, wordlessly indicating that they ought to just give Whitedapple a chance to recover before bombarding her with questions.

Whitedapple let both toms speak. While Tigerstep spoke, she noticed another cat standing somewhat behind the leader. She moved her head slightly to look at the medicine cat as he spoke and then shifted it to look at Howlingstar when the larger tom spoke.
Her ears twitched, hearing the suspicion that tinged Tigerstep's words. Yes, she supposed that name did sound like the others, but it wasn't really her fault. It was Lilyfreckle that had given her that name, in secret.
The dirty, matted, and thin she-cat was having trouble keeping her head up but she managed for the most part. Whitedapple was mulling over telling these strange cats anything else and was about to reply, with what, she wasn't completely sure, but was slightly grateful when Howlingstar said that she should get some rest before answering anything else. She wouldn't admit it but she could fall asleep where she stood and sleep for days.
Dipping her head politely to the large brown tom, Whitedapple glanced at the other tom. The one that had gotten the rest of the cats to go away and do something productive. She wasn't exactly sure about him but as she studied him, she got the feeling he wouldn't harm her unless she made a wrong move.

It had been several mornings since Whitedapple had reached Thunderclan, a quarter-moon to be exact. The white and brown she-cat woke up slowly, her lake blue eyes blinking open. She slowly and painfully got up, yawning. Even though Tigerstep, the tom who smelled like plants and had helped her when she stumbled into their territory, had been giving her some herbs to help with the pain, it only dulled it a little. After overhearing some of the clan cats grumble over how they were wasting their prey and precious herbs on her, she didn't want to tell the kind tabby tom that she was hurting.
Once she shakily got to her paws, Whitedapple stretched slowly and then sat down on her makeshift nest. Noticing some moss dripping with water, she drank a little from it and then used to rest to get muck off of her pelt. She'd been working on her pelt each day, feeling embarrassed that she was so disheveled, thin, and weak. The small she-cat finally got the last of the muck and matts from her pelt, she smiled and then licked down any stray tufts sticking up. I wonder if today will be the day they have me tell my story to their leader. At that thought, she shivered nervously.
Kneading the nest beneath her, Whitedapple got lost in her memories, not noticing any sounds or movements around her.

Post by Howlingstar on Sept 7, 2015 16:10:28 GMT -5
Howlingstar awoke one morning, remembering that it had been a little over a quarter moon since he had made the decision to let Whitedapple take shelter with the clan under the care of Tigerstep, the Thunderclan medicine cat. The season was nearing its end, but the atmosphere was still warm with the presence of greenleaf. Howlingstar rose from his nest within the leader's den beyond the highledge, and padded out into the light. Even for his incredibly large size, the leader's den had enough room for him to stand tall as he appeared at the top of the highledge from the shadows. He had decided that maybe Whitedapple might have recovered enough from her initial condition to explain to him and the rest of the clan what happened to here, but he needed Tigerstep's approval that the sicky she-cat was well enough to do that. Howlingstar hopped down from the highledge with a heavy sigh as all of his weight landed almost noiselessly on the hardened ground below, his powerful muscles trained to keep all his movements from making a ruckus by cushioning the fall of every landing step whenever he hunted through Thunderclan's territory. Without pausing, he turned and headed for the medicine cat's den where Whitedapple had been nesting so that the medicine cat could keep a close eye on her progress in getting back to full strength. He stopped at the entrance to the cave where Tigerstep and Whitedapple lived, and poked his large brown head inside. "Whitedapple?" He meowed a greeting, looking around the entrance to see where exactly Whitedapple was. "How are you feeling? Is Tigerstep in here?" Howlingstar purred gently to the she-cat who at least looked much better than she did when she first arrived in the clan's territory.

The brown dappled she-cat stood up when she heard and smelled Howlingstar come into the den. Dipping her head, she purred. I am well, thanks to you and Tigerstep. Her off-off-white pelt looked cream, tan, and black, as it rippled. Whitedapple glanced around and shrugged slightly, apologetically. I do not know. I was just wondering the same. I haven't seen him since I woke up and I didn't hear him leave, but I did have water soaked moss when I woke. She said in her quiet voice. Thanks to having a few conversations with Tigerstep, mostly him asking her how she was, her vocal cords were better and her voice almost back to normal.
Not for the first time since she got there, she had a reoccurring thought. I wonder if my mother's first litter are still alive and still here. She said I had looked like her other she-kit, even though we had different fathers. In the dimmer light of the medicine cat's den, her pelt was almost the exact same as her sister's, Whitesplash. I'll ask after I tell my story.

Tigerstep was on his way back to camp, trotting slightly while enjoying the cool morning breeze. It seemed that Greenleaf was already nearing its end, which made Tigerstep sigh just thinking about it. Soon enough prey would be scarce, and if Thunderclan was unlucky, some might end up sick. The tom shook off his negative thoughts and quickened his pace, he needed to be back to camp before it got much later, he sure had took his time while collecting herbs. Since Whitedapple had been staying under his care for about a quarter moon, there had been murmuring going around the camp. Some of the warriors were telling each other that the she-cat was just wasting prey and herbs, and this made Tigerstep's blood practically boil with anger. They had plenty of prey to go around, and as for the herbs, they weren't exactly in a low supply. He had been giving her some to help with the pain, and she was getting stronger and healthier by the day. As the tiger-looking tom approached the camp entrance he narrowed his eyes, and then slid through the entrance quietly.
The first thing that Tigerstep came in contact with in front of the Medicine den was Howlingstar's rump. It appeared that he had his head stuck in the den, presumably talking with Whitedapple. Purring a little in amusement, the medicine cat squeezed past Howlingstar and into the den. "Good morning, Howlingstar!" He greeted, and then dropped the herbs he was carrying in his mouth in front of Whitedapple. "You seem to be feeling well this morning, eh?" He asked the she-cat. "I went out to collect these, for your pain." Tigerstep pushed the herbs closer to the dappled she-cat with his paw. "There are plenty, so don't be afraid to eat them as needed. The most important thing right now is your well-being." The tom said with a smile, his striped tail curling around his paws as he sat down. His green eyes darted to his leader, and he smiled at the large tom. "What brings you to my den so early, Howlingstar?" Tigerstep asked.

Howlingstar purred at the good news. It's good that you're feeling better. Whitedapple had already stood up in preparation for Howlingstar's arrival. He was a little bit disappointed, not in anyone, that Tigerstep was out at the moment. It couldn't be helped that the medicine cat had his own duties to complete, but that simply meant that Howlingstar would need to wait for him to return. "I see, I'll need to ask him something when he returns. To see what his word on your recovery progress is." Exactly at that moment, the fresh scent of an herb-scented cat filled his nostrils, and Tigerstep was squeezing into the medicine cat den past Howlingstar's colossal form. Howlingstar realized that maybe he ought to form a habit of not blocking the entire pathway of a den with his body whenever he didn't actually intend to go inside. He leaned away so Tigerstep could get into the den a little easier. "You're quite right, it's a very good morning." He purred in greeting with a little bit of factual logic. He let the medicine cat put his herbs down in front of Whitedapple and instruct her to feel free to eat them before he would ask his question. "Yes that's what I was going to ask you, Tigerstep. Of Whitedapple's condition. Is she well enough to tell us where she came from? I figured it might be time we decide exactly what is in store for Whitedapple's place in the clan." He meowed, going straight to the point of his plans for today. All the while, a warm glow filled his amber depths, and there was not a trace of negativity in his tone. Howlingstar had every intention of letting Whitedapple join Thunderclan if she wanted; something in the back of his mind told him that her coincidental warrior's name was enough evidence that Whitedapple's destiny was with the clans, though it may very well just be bias, since every cat expects a warrior name to have a connection to the clans.
