Whitedapple smiled shyly when Tigerstep came into the den. The tabby tom greeted his leader and then came over to Whitedapple. "You seem to be feeling well this morning, eh?" The medicine cat asked her. "I went out to collect these, for your pain." Tigerstep pushed the herbs closer to Whitedapple with his paw. "There are plenty, so don't be afraid to eat them as needed. The most important thing right now is your well-being." She shook her head slightly. "Really, I don't want to be a bother. I'm sure you need to keep enough of this for other cats that get hurt. And I feel fine." She lied, her ears burning. Only her mother had given her this much attention and she was unaccustomed to it. When the two toms started talking about having her tell her story, she perked up. She wanted to tell them because maybe they knew her mother and maybe she still had family here. Perhaps they might even let her stay. She dismissed that thought, not wanting to get her hopes up to high, even with all the praise her mother had given to Thunderclan. I figured it might be time we decide exactly what is in store for Whitedapple's place in the clan. Howlingstar said this, and even though it didn't give her a bad vide, she still got nervous. She really hoped they would let her stay. But what if I bring trouble to them? Mother told me to run, that someone would be coming after me. She started to doubt that staying here would be a good thing. How could she repay their kindness with bringing trouble? Whitedapple started to fret and it showed. Her tail tip was twitching, her whiskers shivered, and she was kneeding the makeshift nest beneath her.

Tigerstep twitched his ears when Whitedapple told him that she didn't want to be a bother. She wasn't being a bother whatsoever, and the medicine cat concluded that she had probably overheard others talking about her wasting their prey and herbs. He would have to remember to give his whispering clanmates a stern talking-to. When the she-cat told him that she felt fine he narrowed his eyes, a bit of suspicion reflecting in their dark green depths. Although she was looking and feeling much better than before, Tigerstep doubted that she felt no pain at all, especially from her twisted paw. However, he couldn't make her eat those herbs. If she really didn't want to eat them, then that was that. The most he could do was give her encouragement to eat them. "Alright, if you insist." The tom sighed, pushing the herbs to the side of the she-cat's makeshift nest. "But they're here if you ever need them." He added, glancing quickly at Whitedapple's paw. The swelling in it seemed to have gone down quite a bit, but he was sure that it was still a little painful to move around and stand on.
When Howlingstar asked him if he thought Whitedapple was well enough to tell them where she came from, and let them decide her place in the clan, Tigerstep thought for a moment. She was well enough to talk fine, and after glancing at the she-cat, she did seem to perk up a bit at the prospect of it, kneading her nest with her front claws. The tom nodded at his leader. "I suppose. She's been doing quite well. As long as Whitedapple feels that she's ready, I see no problems with it." He told Howlingstar, and smiled at Whitedapple. Tigerstep was curious to hear where the she-cat had come from, and he looked at her expectantly, waiting for her response.

Howlingstar was pleased to see that Whitedapple was at least well enough to stubbornly try and refuse the medicine cat's care in the form of herbs. But it was still visibly clear that the white she-cat had a ways to go before she would be completely recovered. Howlingstar guessed that Whitedapple was the sort of proud, yet humble masochistic cat to hide her weakness and insist upon her selflessness, for even Tigerstep seemed like he'd heard this sort of refusal before as he sighed. Howlingstar's whiskers twitched in amusement. Only Starclan and Whitedapple knew what kind of unimaginable hardships Whitedapple had experienced before she came to the clan that pushed her to such a slow recovering condition.
As he spoke with Tigerstep, Howlingstar noticed the feeble she-cat looking very nervous at his words, her tail tip twitching anxiously and her whiskers shivering with fear. He blinked warmly at her and meowed, "Don't worry, Whitedapple. You will always be welcome in Thunderclan if you choose to stay or go when you're strong enough to live independently." Howlingstar often forgot that if it weren't for his almost "fatherly" choice of friendly words and welcoming gestures, his fierce, glowing amber eyes, colossal size, massive chest, huge paws, broad head and pointed, wolf-like snout combined with merely a neutral expression could easily strike terror for one's safety and wellbeing into any cat. He had been, since his own warrior ceremony, creating a habit for himself of being gentle and kind, always, when speaking to his clanmates. Only when scolding a warrior or apprentice did Howlingstar let them see what he looked like without a pleasant face.
Howlingstar nodded gratefully to the medicine cat. "Thank you, Tigerstep. You've done a fantastic job with Whitedapple." He purred. Following Tigerstep's lead and glancing once more at Whitedapple, Howlingstar meowed, "Well, do you think you're well enough to tell us your story?" Howlingstar smiled gently at the she-cat.

Whitedapple was surprised at how Howlingstar spoke of almost exactly what she was thinking and for a moment, she just sat still, staring at him. But then the large tom spoke again and she shook herself from her frozen state. Figuratively of course. The white and brown she-cat nodded enthusiastically, a smile on her maw. "I am." The young cat thought for a moment. "Well, I guess I'll start from the beginning. At least, of what I know." The she-cat looked between the two toms and then took a deep breath. And started to tell them her story, even before it was her story. "My mother's name was Lilyfreckle. She told me she was born and raised as a Thunderclan cat. One story she told me was that she had had a litter with a tom she loved very much. In it were two kittens, one being a she-kit and the other a tom. She named them Whitekit and Rainkit. One day she was tired of being cooped up in the nursery and even in camp, so she went for a walk in the territory. My mother was attacked by a badger when she had gotten far away from the camp, so far she was almost to the outside border. She tried to climb a tree to escape, but it grabbed one of her hind legs and dragged her back down, breaking her leg in the process. She tried to fight it off while finding somewhere to hide. My mother finally found a rabbit den that was just barely bid enough for her squeeze into. By then, the badger had done a lot of damage to her. She had many wounds and her front paw was mangled." When she had been talking, her eyes had focused past Howlingstar and out of the den, not really seeing anything except what she had imagined what it had looked like. But now, she glanced at the toms to see how they were taking it, before plunging on again. "Mother had waited the badger out, growing weaker and weaker the entire time from blood loss. When it finally gave up and left, she could barely manage to get out of the den. She knew she couldn't make it back to the camp and if she waited, she would surely die, so when she heard someone outside of the territory, she dragged herself to the other cat. A tom found her and took care of her. By the time she was completely healed, she had already fallen for him, and when she thought she was well enough to go back, she found she was expecting another litter. She also knew that her clan would make her into an elder because her paw and leg never healed quite right, so she left with the tom and went far away." Whitedapple spoke of the tom fondly, even though she had never met him. "My father died before we were born. Mother ended up having me and my brother, Ember. She had named me Breeze, but she said that since I looked so much like her other kit, she decided to name me after her. So in secret, she gave me the name Whitekit. Then when I was 6 moons old, she changed it to Whitepaw, and then she gave me the name Whitedapple." The sickly she-cat paused. She was happy and purring when she said this, but then her whole demeanor changed and she became melancholy as she thought about what happened after that. "My uncle had taken my brother when we were no longer dependent on milk. Mother told me that my uncle wasn't a good cat, and that I should stay away from him and Ember. So I did. A couple of moons ago, I found my mother dying. She told me to leave. To find the clan she once called home, and to never return. I stayed with her until she took her last breath, then I did as she told me. I went in the direction she told me and stayed on that path the best I could."She was about to speak about how she believed her mother's murderer had been after her, but she closed her muzzle abruptly, not wanting to say that they might be in trouble because of her. Surely they would kick her out for putting them in danger, even if she was sure she had lost them a long time ago. Whitedapple stared at her paws, not wanting to look at them because of how guilty she felt. Words || 770 Tagged || Tigerstep Howlingstar

Tigerstep smiled when Whitedapple agreed to tell them about her past, and listened intently as the she-cat began to talk. When she brought up Lilyfreckle, the tom's blood went cold. He himself had never met the she-cat, but he remembered the clan talking about her when he was very, very young. How she had mysteriously vanished one day, leaving her kits and her clan. The medicine cat narrowed his eyes, perhaps thinking that the she-cat wasn't telling the truth, but listened even more intently. He was surprised that Lilyfreckle had not chosen to return to camp, but it made sense. Sometimes a warrior's greatest fear was not being able to be a warrior at all. Watching Whitedapple think about her memories, no matter how hurtful they were, made Tigerstep feel very sympathetic for the she-cat. No cat deserved so much pain, it must have been very hard for her. After she had finished, the she-cat looked as if she had more to say, but instead closed her mouth and looked down at her paws. Tigerstep twitched his ears, his dark green eyes resting on the she-cat, reflecting sadness. "You've been brave, being through so much and still being able to be happy. I envy that." The tiger-looking tom murmured, and walked to Whitedapple, sitting close to her, wrapping his tail around her. It was natural for him to be caring, and in her time of need, Whitedapple needed all the kindness she could get. Tigerstep looked over at Howlingstar expectantly, wondering what his leader would have to say about Whitedapple's past.

"I hear the wind callin' my name. The sound that leads me home again. "It sparks up the fire, a flame that still burns." To you, I will always return.
Howlingstar smiled gently at Whitedapple as he awaited her reply, and he saw her staring at him as if she were surprised by something he said. But she quickly returned from her brief state of shock and her expression filled with enthusiasm. "I am." Howlingstar took a seat right outside of the medicine cat den as he peered inside and listened to her story. Whitedapple started from the generation in line above her when her own mother was born. Howlingstar's eyes widened slightly with surprise at the early plot twist that Whitedapple's mother was born in Thunderclan. So Whitedapple had the blood of a clan cat after all. It was all the more likely that her destiny was with Thunderclan.
Howlingstar dipped his head with pity as Whitedapple went into...astounding detail...about her mother's meeting with an unfortunate twist of events. He blinked warmly at Whitedapple, giving his support for her to continue her story which was sounding like it had much more background than Howlingstar had ever expected. He also noted that she had a skill for telling interesting stories with thorough detail and suspense. It was definitely making sense now that Whitedapple's name had really been an intentional clan name. He saw how Whitedapple purred fondly when she spoke of the days she spent growing up with her mother. Faintly in his distant memory, he remembered being a very young warrior when one of Thunderclan's queens, Lilyfreckle, had mysteriously disappeared. It was a tragedy for her kits. He hadn't known the queen very well, but her kit, Whitekit, had grown up and become his mate before she passed away sadly. "You've been brave, being through so much and still being able to be happy. I envy that." Howlingstar heard the medicine cat murmur, empathy in his voice. He nodded in agreement.
After she finished talking about how she had been told by her mother to seek out Thunderclan, Whitedapple looked as if she had more to say before deciding abruptly not to speak. Howlingstar wondered at that, but didn't make any move to press her further. Whitedapple's personal business was her own, and he trusted that she was the sort of cat who would tell the clan leader anything he needed to know. There were, however, a couple loose ends he couldn't quite leave as they were. "Do you mean that the one who murdered your mother was your uncle?" He asked tentatively, hoping he wouldn't be offending Whitedapple by prying just a bit into the deeper parts of her story. "Well no matter what, Thunderclan welcomes you as a member of our clan and will protect you with our lives as we would any other Thunderclan cat." Howlingstar purred confidently.

Even with being in the clan for the last seven sunrises, Whitedapple wasn't used to having others be close to her like how Tigerstep was. After all, she had spent countless moons alone, trying to reach the clans. After the initial shock of it, she relaxed and leaned against the medicine cat, giving him a kind smile full of thanks, her blue eyes softening. "You've been brave, being through so much and still being able to be happy. I envy that." It wasn't until the tiger striped tom said that, that she noticed he might actually be right. It was probably only because of her mother's spirit, or what she believed had been her mother's spirit that had stuck with her throughout it all. It was because of her mother that she hadn't given up, that she had continued on and might actually find peace and happiness in this clan. That is, if THEY aren't still after me. The dappled she-cat sobered up at that thought but tried not to let it show on her face. A small part of it did shine out from her blue eyes. Whitedapple looked at these two kind toms, who had taken her in and were willing to let her live in the clan. She wasn't yet ready to tell them that she might be putting them in danger, but she knew that she would. Hopefully someday soon. "Do you mean that the one who murdered your mother was your uncle?" The brown and white she-cat flinched slightly when Howlingstar said this, even with his voice soft. Her shoulders slumped slightly and she looked at the floor between them. "I believe it was either him or my brother." Whitedapple mewed quietly, but she brought her gemlike blue gaze up to Howlingstar's again as she spoke, her face a mixture of emotions. Her eyes showed her sadness at this, but she also hardened her face and tone, trying to hold back other emotions that were unwanted. "Well no matter what, Thunderclan welcomes you as a member of our clan and will protect you with our lives as we would any other Thunderclan cat." The large brown tom spoke once more and her eyes started to water at his words, her facade cracking. I did it mother. I made it, and they are just as kind as you said. They are going to let me stay! She sent the thought toward her mother before she spoke. "And I will give my life to protect you all. Thank you for giving me this opportunity. I won't let you down." Whitedapple smiled brightly, purring. "I would still like to ask some questions about my family if it is okay." She paused, waiting for confirmation before continuing on. "Do I have any family here still? I would really like to meet my sister and any others I might be related to." She said, not even trying to hide the hope that pooled from her eyes and words. After all her mother had told her, she hoped her sister was still alive. She knew Lilyfreckle hadn't thought her first she-kit would survive when her first son had barely made it about a dozen sunrises, but Whitedapple believed with all her heart that her sister had lived.
